Any MLC community member can host an event! Here are rough steps you may wish to follow. Events and advertising for them must follow the [Code of Conduct](wiki:/code-of-conduct).

### Before the event
 * Make a page for your event (on this wiki or anywhere else); feel free to use the [MLC logo](https://mlcollective.org/logo/) if helpful
 * Add the event to the MLC calendar. For access: [How to add a calendar event](wiki:/add-calendar-event)
 * Publicize the event via any of several channels:
    * Post about it on Twitter. Link to a page with info about the event, including how people can join and when it will be. You can tag [@ml_collective](https://twitter.com/ml_collective) and someone managing our Twitter handle will retweet your tweet.
    * Post in the `#events-mlc` channel on Discord
    * Post in the relevant geographical channel (those starting with `g-`, for example, `g-nyc`) on Discord
    * Advertise via any of your own channels (email lists, Facebook, etc).

### Host the event
 * (optional) Record the event if you want (but first ask permission from people).
 * (optional) Take notes
 * (optional) Report back top 3 things learned

### After the event
 * (optional) Post video recording
 * (optional) Post pictures
 * (optional) Post notes on wiki or elsewhere

### MLC funding for events

If you are hosting an in-person event that costs money, MLC can likely sponsor it! The requirements for MLC to sponsor an event are:

 * Follow the above process
 * The event must be open for all to attend and the invite must be posted somewhere publicly (e.g. we cannot sponsor private lunches for you and two of your friends)
 * MLC will sponsor up to $20 per person who attends the event. After the event, please just send a receipt and list of who attended to our receipts email address (receipts at this domain name)
 * If venue needs to be pre-paid, contact `hello@mlcollective.org` and we will review on a case-by-case basis

Encouraged but not required:

 * Post photos of your event!
 * Take notes, post the notes, post anything you learned in Discord
 * Have fun! (actually this is required)
