Hi! Welcome to ML Collective Nigeria πŸ‘‹πŸΏπŸ˜Ž!

Our email list is `nigeria@mlcollective.org`.
Our Discord chatroom is `g-nigeria` under the `geographical` category.

## Who are we?
We are a group of aspiring early-career researchers from Nigeria, passionate about various aspects of AI and machine learning research.
Our interests range from looking at constraint scenario in a bid to democratizing AI, to leveraging the state-of-the-art in solving societal problems in Nigeria, Africa, and beyond. We are immensely grateful to the ML Collective community for the warm love and continuous support, nurturing our growth as future researchers.

### Starting Point
We embrace an open group organization where all of us--a community as whole--participate (haphazardly, without being compelled) in the organization and regulation of our activities within the chapter. To get started with participating in our activities, read [our group organization document](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TZSDe0TNFeDS3zYaGw8V7a6fSHHNBxHea0siknCeJPI/edit?usp=sharing).

### Join our Reading Group
You are invited to participate in our group reading sessions, where we collectively explore and analyze research works.
During these sessions, we evaluate the impact these works have had and discuss their future implications as the field of AI progresses.
We employ the [role-playing many-to-many format](https://colinraffel.com/blog/role-playing-seminar.html) where our members play different roles including _archeologist, hacker, practitioner, etc_. for each reading session. For more details, check [here](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BleeDFKdhqqnrV1VKW4r38kCYyDxD4mxjkHUUgeBjRU/edit?usp=sharing).

### Join our Study Group
In our study group, we have sub-groups focusing on specific areas of interest. Each sub-group selects a topic or course to study collaboratively. The duration of each study unit varies based on the complexity of the materials and the goals of the sub-group.
Currently, we are embarking on the [Harvard Introduction to Research course](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uvAbEhbgS_M-uDMTzmOWRlYxqCkogKRXdbKYYT98ooc/edit), which involves 3-5 hour-long weekly sessions (might be longer, depending on your proficiency level).

We have weekly meetings to serve as platforms for in-depth discussions about the concepts learned and potential research projects stemming from these concepts.

### Projects
We encourage members to propose their project ideas, whether they are community-driven initiatives (collaborations can be secured within the community) or personal endeavors (expert mentorship and resources can be secured within the community). If you have a project in mind, feel free to pitch it to the community.

To keep track of ongoing projects, visit [this page](#).

If you have a project idea, share it with us on [our Discord channel](https://discord.gg/U6Cznrwk).
